We wonder why a Mitsubishi ad for its Lancer sedan is only allowed to be shown after 9pm in British TV. 9pm and beyond is almost like a ‘dead zone’ in television. Most people are asleep that time.

The ad, entitled “Birds and Bees,” is about a dad who drove his son with a Lancer sedan while answering his son’s question: “Where did I come from?”

One of the probable reasons why such a restriction was passed on to the ad is because of its theme—how the dad answered. Some people say it’s an old joke so people shouldn’t make a big deal out of it.

It’s a simple car ad. A father and son get in the car. The kid asks something. And the two ends up driving the whole time while talking about the subject at hand. They go back home and end their conversation. All throughout the car’s role was for their mobility while discussing.

If you watch the video you’ll get the impression that the car provides a comfortable mobile environment where folks, friends, families can converse with one another freely.

The scheduling of the ad could affect the sales of Lancer sedan. But it’s a probability. We never know. Cars will always have a following if they’re good enough. Late-night restrictions such as this don’t really impede sales growth that much, we hope. Personally, the video is just alright. There’s no big deal at all. But the British TV regulatory board must have their own reasons. In the mean time, this is adding to the ad’s Viral Marketing value, though!
